Sexual Harassment Lawsuits Are Avoidable Warns Dallas Employment Lawyer
Nov 11, 2011
Dallas, TX (Law Firm Newswire) November 10, 2011 – Monarch Dental, a nationwide dentist office chain with more than 300 offices in 18 states, recently settled a Texas sexual harassment case where one of their dentists was accused of groping his hygienist and dental assistant and making vulgar comments to them.
As a result of the verdict, the company now will train several of its managers on sexual harassment laws. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission brought the case against Monarch Dental, according to a report in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
“This case is an example of how important it is for everyone in your company to be aware of the law,” said Dallas employment lawyer Ty Gomez. “Lawsuits like this don’t just cost your company money, but they cost you in lost productivity.”
Both of the former employees were awarded $175,000 to settle the lawsuit, according to the paper. The EEOC alleged that when the women complained to their managers, the company did not conduct an acceptable investigation and the dentist was not disciplined.
“If any of your employees complain they are being sexually harassed, whether they are accusing one of your managers or accusing you, your first move should be to talk to a qualified attorney and get professional advice on what to do next,” Gomez said.
An employment law firm with experience in sexual harassment law can help your company set up an employee training program to help prevent these incidents. Gomez, who works for Gomez Law Group, has spent more than 17 years practicing business and employment law. The Gomez team has experience in sexual harassment lawsuits.
