Los Angeles Entertainment Litigation Attorney Explains Recent Breach of Contract Lawsuit
Dec 29, 2011
Los Angeles, CA (Law Firm Newswire) December 28, 2011 – Hosting an event for an Oscar party is usually a great way to make an event venue known to party planners, marketing directors, and Hollywood celebrities. But in a recent lawsuit, a private estate and its company’s CEO were allegedly duped by a production company. The estate is owned by Elizabeth Mazzochi, who is the CEO of Accomplice Lifestyle, a personal management company.
Mazzochi was allegedly told by J. Ben Bourgeois (JBB) Productions that it should make the Delfern Estate the location for the Vanity Fair Oscar party. JBB claimed that Accomplice would then become a marketing partner with the magazine if it allowed the event to happen for free at the estate. Accomplice secured event insurance and even paid JBB for consulting. When Accomplice communicated with Vanity Fair the day of the event, Vanity Fair did not even know about Accomplice.
“This shows the pitfalls that oral agreements and vague contracts can have on your business,” said Los Angeles entertainment litigation attorney Anthony Spotora. “It pays to get legal representation up front when a big opportunity like this presents itself, especially when it can affect your business so vastly.”
The lawsuit Accomplice filed in Los Angeles Superior Court alleges breach of contract, negligent misrepresentation, fraud and deceit, unjust enrichment, and intentional and negligent interference with economic advantage. Whether an individual or business wants to partner on events, venues, or collaborations in Hollywood, it is vital to create detailed contracts and agreements that both parties review and sign. Otherwise, the potential for escalating costs and lost opportunities can devastate a venture.
“Sometimes the only way to recover your losses and learn what really happened is through litigation,” said Spotora. “You need to promptly take action and have a skilled litigator on your side.”
