Detroit Hosted National Veteran Small Business Conference

Jul 14, 2012

Northville, MI (Law Firm Newswire) July 13, 2012 – One of the biggest challenges facing any veteran is the transition into civilian life, once his or her service has been completed. The National Veteran Small Business Conference aimed to provide solutions to the problem.

The conference convened in downtown Detroit’s Cobo Center from June 26-29, 2012, and was geared to help business-owning veterans grow their firms in the federal marketplace. Some 6,000 vets turned out for the event and were afforded the opportunity to meet with decision makers from federal and non-federal businesses, increase business acumen through training and business requirement sessions, and connect with other attendees in the Expo Hall, where nearly 500 booths were set up.

“This is one way to truly help support our troops,” said James Fausone, veteran’s disability lawyer and veteran’s attorney with Legal Help for Veterans. That Detroit was the site of the conference is fitting, given the fact that an estimated 700,000 veterans live in the Motor City area. To make sure as many them as possible attended, the Bob Woodruff Foundation presented grants for post 9/11 vets. The grants covered the cost of conference admission, lodging for three nights and transportation.

Also part of the National Veteran Small Business Conference was the Veterans Affairs for Vets Hiring Fair, which took place from June 26-28, 2012, at Cobo Center in Detroit. Here, veterans were provided access to interviews and informed of the latest career opportunities with federal entities and the private sector. Vets were also given tips on building a federal resume and learning successful interview techniques and had the chance to get career coaching and the latest information on veteran’s benefits and services.
