Fatal Accident in Texas Will Result in Arrests

Waxahachie, TX (Law Firm Newswire) September 3, 2012 – A DPS Trooper said they are moving ahead with warrants for people involved in a deadly traffic accident.
A young Magnolia man died when he lost control of his vehicle on July 31. He was struck by a white truck on Hardin Road about 30 miles northwest of Houston between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. When the young man’s Nissan Maxima was struck from behind by the truck, it entered a ditch next to FM 2978. The Maxima then backed out of the ditch and back onto the road where it was hit by an SUV.
Both the pickup truck and the Maxima may have been traveling at speeds up to 100 miles per hour. It was reported one of the impacts caused the Maxima to split in two. One man, who was not wearing a seat belt, died. The driver of the white truck fled the scene of the accident. As for the driver of the SUV, he sustained a broken wrist and ribs.
“This is another tragic example of why it is so important to wear a seat belt,” said Waxahachie personal injury attorney John Hale. While the traffic fatality rate in Texas is on the decline, it remains above the national average. In 2011, seat belt usage was estimated at nearly 94 percent, compared to just 74 percent in 2001.
The increased seat belt usage is largely attributed to the “Click It or Ticket” statewide public awareness campaign. It has been known for decades that wearing seat belts saves lives and prevents injuries. Why some people are still not using them is not completely clear, but what is clear is that without them, more people will die.
