Father Changes Address from Florida to Texas to Reduce Child Support Payments
Sep 29, 2012
Zephyrhills, FL (Law Firm Newswire) September 28, 2012 – A professional basketball player for the Miami Heat has allegedly claimed a Texas residence as his home, rather than Florida, though he plays and practices in Florida.
It is assumed that the address change is to reduce child support payments. If his primary residence is legally recognized as Florida, current child support allocation is three percent of his income per month, according to reports. The player’s estimated salary is $18 million per year, which means, if true, he would be paying $30,000 per month.
If the player, Chris Bosh, has a primary residence in Texas, however, his child support payments could be reduced by one full percent. While one percent seems minor, with an annual salary of $18 million, he would save an estimated $18,000 each month, or $216,000 each year. Over ten years, if he stays healthy and active in his sport, he would save more than $2 million, not counting monies coming in from endorsements and appearances.
Reportedly, Mr. Bosh’s home in Miami is worth an estimated $12.5 million, and the new residence in Texas cost an estimated $73,000. “These situations can be fairly complex,” said Zephyrhills child custody attorney Marcie Baker. “While a number of things are allegedly happening here, only the individuals involved know the real motivation for his residence.”
The 12,000-square-foot home with views of Biscayne Bay was purchased in 2010, and has eight bathrooms, seven bedrooms, 20-foot ceilings, an elevator and a pool. Meanwhile, Bosh, 28, recently asserted in papers recently filed in an Orlando court that he lives in a house in a Dallas suburb that runs 1,900-square-feet, located on a zero-lot line property. Bosh, a Dallas native, is currently attempting to vary an order from a Texas judge that stipulated he pay $2,600-per-month to his former live-in girlfriend, Allison Mathis, with whom he has a young daughter.
