Bus Driver May Face Up To 40 Years in Prison for Causing Deadly Accident
Jan 4, 2013
Southfield, MI (Law Firm Newswire) January 3, 2013 – A bus driver killed four people and injured countless others. He was convicted of involuntary manslaughter.
“Although this gruesome story happened four years ago, justice caught up to the bus driver who killed four and injured numerous others in a bus wreck in Virginia. The judge who delivered the verdict stated that the driver’s conduct was so egregious, that he was finding him guilty on all four counts,” explained Darren Monroe of Litigation Funding Corporation, Michigan.
During the course of the trial, there were at least 15 witnesses called, including several of the passengers that had been on the bus on that fateful day. They were taking a trip from Greensboro, North Carolina, to New York. They never made it there, as their Sky Express bus crashed. “The jury heard about the erratic driving of the driver, and that he was weaving all over the road, while speeding up and then slowing down for no apparent reason. He eventually swerved right off the road, slammed into an embankment and flipped over,” said Monroe.
According to police reports submitted as evidence during the trial, the driver admitted he had fallen asleep at the wheel. In doing so, he negligently breached his duty of care to his passengers, and may face up to 40-years in prison when sentenced in the New Year.
There are likely four families that may file wrongful death lawsuits in this case. While waiting for civil justice, they may face a difficult time paying their bills. In order to get them through to the trial or settlement process, they might wish to consider applying for lawsuit settlement funding, available by applying to a litigation funding company.
“The process is easy,” advised Monroe, “and they only need to fill out an application online, or by phone, to determine if they qualify. The staff is experts at explaining how lawsuit financing works and what the benefits are, and it may be just the solution to help those families get out of debt.”
