Houston Immigration Attorney Annie Banerjee Comments on Immigration Reform

Houston, TX (Law Firm Newswire) November 4, 2013 – Though immigration reform has taken a back burner to the other debates, business leaders are still working to force House Republicans to deal with immigration reform changes.
The mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg, and Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook along with Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer, News Corp.’s Rupert Murdoch, Marriot hotel’s CEO Bill Marriott, LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman and Sean Parker, the founder of Napster, have teamed up to push a vote on immigration legislation. They believe immigration reform will strongly bolster the economy.
“The widespread support that immigration reform has from heads of the U.S. engineering industry shows how vital this is to our economy,” said Houston immigration attorney Annie Banerjee.
Zuckerberg’s immigration advocacy group, Fwd.us, reportedly plans to hold a “hackathon” in November, where famous coders will team up with immigrants who came to the U.S. as children. These “Dreamers” will work with the senior coders to develop tools to address “the problems within our immigration system,” and to then launch the projects. The event is hoped to bring heightened public awareness to U.S. immigration policies and to help push for fewer visa restrictions for skilled STEM workers.
The business leaders and their support teams have also been holding roundtable discussions, holding backroom meetings and working with lobbyists to show what impact an overhaul would have on manufacturing and farmers. According to Zuckerberg, he has $50 million he plans to spend on ads to support Congressional members in favor of immigration reform.
The campaign push includes rallies to attempt to sway 40 House Republicans who have been flagged as influential members, known for their conservative stances, but also known for being flexible on immigration issues, as they represent districts with agriculture, manufacturing and technology sectors which are invested in an overhaul of current immigration laws.
Immigration legislation has been stalled in the GOP-led house for several months.
