Best Lawyers, a legal peer-review organization, recently released a directory titled “The Best Lawyers in America”. The book is filled with the profiles of outstanding attorneys in all practice areas and in all metropolitan areas throughout a state. Andrew Hook is the only elder law attorney in the Norfolk area to receive this distinction.

“I am humbled by this recognition from my very capable peers in the field of elder law,” Hook said. “The fact that this award is the product of reviews by other attorneys is what makes it such an honor.”

Nominations for inclusion in “Best Lawyers” come primarily from clients and other lawyers, the organization says. Ballots covering particular geographic regions and practice areas are then distributed only to attorneys practicing in those regions and areas. Voters are asked how likely they are, on a scale of one to five, to refer a case to a given attorney if they themselves are unable to take the case. The scores are tallied, and selected lawyers are cross-checked against sanction lists with state bar associations to ensure they are in good standing with ethics committees.

In addition to elder law, Andrew H. Hook’s practice includes: estate and trust administration; estate, tax, retirement and financial planning; long-term care planning; asset protection planning; special needs planning; business succession planning; and personal injury settlement consulting. Hook is a Fellow of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) and a former President of the Special Needs Alliance. He is also a Certified Financial Planner and an accredited attorney for the prosecution of veterans benefits claims before the Department of Veterans Affairs.

“Our attorneys and staff work very hard to provide dependable, expert legal service to our community,” adds Hook. “The highest achievement we strive for is a satisfied clientele.”

Founded in 1983, Best Lawyers is the oldest legal peer-review organization in the United States. The 2014 edition of “The Best Lawyers in America” includes 50,834 attorneys practicing in 134 different fields in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
