Anthony S. Bruning and his son, Anthony S. Bruning, Jr. (A.J.), have been named as a Super Lawyer and a Rising Star, respectively. Both of these designations are highly regarded in the profession and are awarded only to a fraction of the lawyers in a particular jurisdiction.

An exclusive selection process

In order to be named a Super Lawyer, an attorney is nominated by other attorneys in his or her jurisdiction or is noticed by the attorney-led research team at Super Lawyers. Next, the candidates are formally evaluated by the organization’s research department according to 12 indicators of professional achievement and peer recognition.

These include:

• Verdicts and settlements
• Experience
• Honors and awards
• Special licenses and certifications
• Representative clients
• Position within law firm
• Bar or another professional activity
• Pro bono and community service
• Scholarly writings and lectures
• Education and employment background
• Other outstanding achievements

Once this analysis is complete, the candidates are grouped according to practice area and firm size, and the lawyers with the highest point totals are asked to serve on a panel in order to rate the other candidates in the practice areas on a scale of one to ten. Finally, 5 percent of the lawyers in a given jurisdiction are selected to be named as Super Lawyers

The process for the Rising Star designation that Anthony Bruning, Jr. received is the same as above but is limited to only 2.5 percent of the lawyers in the state. Furthermore, rising star lawyers must be under the age of 40 or have been in practice for less than 10 years.
