Texas Chain-Reaction Wreck Kills One, Injures Two
Dec 23, 2014
Austin, TX (Law Firm Newswire) December 23, 2014 – Seven people were involved in a four-car collision. One died at the scene.
According to eyewitness reports, a truck, heading south, had slowed down to turn into a gas station. The car behind that truck also slowed down, but a Chevy pickup hauling equipment, which was travelling behind the car, rammed into it. The impact shoved the car into the north lanes. At that point, a four-door Chevy pickup in the north lane collided with the car, killing the passenger instantly and badly injuring the driver. The trailer hauling the equipment also jackknifed and hit a Ford truck with three people in the vehicle.
“This deadly wreck happened at the intersection of U.S. 183 and FM 973 at about 8:00 a.m. Two were taken to the hospital, with one in critical condition. A 30-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. This was the end result of a bizarre, preventable series of events,” explained Austin injury attorney Brooks Schuelke of Perlmutter & Schuelke, LLP. Schuelke is not involved in the case.
In response to the four-car accident, dispatchers called out first responders and firefighters. The 9300 block of South U.S. 183 was blocked with cars scattered all over the road and debris lying on the median. Shattered glass glinted on wrecked car bodies, and the air was heavy with the sickening scent of leaking gas tanks.
Four people involved in the crash refused medical aid. The two injured individuals were taken to the nearest medical facility for emergency care.
In cases like this one, victims and the families of those who perish may choose to file personal injury lawsuits seeking compensation for their injuries or wrongful death lawsuits. “In both circumstances, the presence of negligence is part of the foundation of making a case to take to court. On the surface, a distracted driver may well have caused this accident, or the fault may lie with a mechanical braking error. Only a complete investigation can reveal all the pertinent details,” Schuelke pointed out.
Individuals who have been involved in a car accident that was not their fault should reach out and connect with a seasoned personal injury attorney. No one should attempt to deal with insurance companies alone, and no one should sign documents or medical waivers without legal counsel. “You have rights. It is important that you know what they are,” Schuelke said.
