Tampa Bay Area Pain Doctor Charged in Three Deaths

Tampa, FL (Law Firm Newswire) February 2, 2015 – A federal grand jury has charged a Tampa Bay area pain management doctor with dispensing drugs that led to the deaths of three people. Dr. Edward Feldman could face life in prison if convicted. Feldman’s wife is also named in the indictment.
“If the allegations are true, this is an egregious example of a pill mill doctor causing horrendous harm,” said Robert Joyce, a Tampa attorney with Joyce & Reyes who handles pharmaceutical negligence cases. “Doctors and pharmacists who improperly dispense drugs that cause harm to patients can be held liable for pharmaceutical negligence.”
In each of the three deaths, which occurred between 2010 and 2011, the government alleges that Feldman prescribed two or more drugs, including methadone, oxycodone, Valium and Xanax to people who did not need them, leading to their deaths. Kim Feldman, the doctor’s wife, faces charges relating to money laundering, drug conspiracy and financial crimes, as does her husband.
The couple was indicted in December but not arrested until January 6, 2015. They are out on bond, with Dr. Feldman signing a $100,000 signature bond and his wife signing a $75,000 signature bond. If they are convicted, the government plans to seize their $1 million home in the Ballast Point neighborhood of Tampa and the Feldman Orthopedic and Wellness Center in Pinellas Park, as well as three bank accounts and two investment accounts.
The Drug Enforcement Administration investigated the case, and a sergeant with the Pinellas Park Police Department said that the pain clinic had earlier drawn the attention of local law enforcement as well, due to the large number of out-of-state license plates seen in the parking lot.
