Chalik & Chalik Cancer Survivor Scholarship
Miami, FL (Law Firm Newswire) July 7, 2015 – A prominent South Florida personal injury law firm has announced that it will award two scholarships annually to students who have survived cancer and are attending college or law school.
“Through our work in medical malpractice and other personal injury cases, we have been privileged to meet people who have overcome serious medical challenges such as a cancer diagnosis,” said attorney Debi Chalik, of Chalik & Chalik. “We wanted to make a contribution to help survivors achieve their goals in life and build a brighter future for themselves.”
Chalik & Chalik previously awarded one scholarship annually in the amount of $1,000, and the firm is announcing that it will now award two such scholarships each year. Applications are open to students with a current GPA of 3.0 or above, who were diagnosed with cancer and have overcome their health challenges to enroll in college or law school in the U.S. Applicants will submit a brief personal essay about how their health challenges influenced their decision to pursue higher education. “We have been so inspired by the survivors we have met through our work,” said Chalik. “We have found hope and encouragement from their stories, and now we want to give back to the community.”
The recipient of the first Survivors Scholarship was a University of North Florida student who was chosen not only for her overcoming her own challenges, but for her work helping others with cancer.
