Over the last year, these investments have fallen 50% and more, and many are cutting their distributions to investors so that they are no longer high-yield, income investments. Many income-seeking investors, particularly retirees, were advised by their brokers and financial advisors to invest in these stocks and funds because there were supposedly safe and secure income-generating investments, similar to bonds, with modest risk.
