Dog Rescue Hero, Greg Mahle and Author, Peter Zheutlin to Receive Humanitarian Award at Massachusetts School of Law Animal Rights Day

North Andover, MA (Law Firm Newswire) February 23, 2016 – Greg Mahle, the real-life hero who has rescued over 30,000 stray dogs, and author Peter Zheutlin, who chronicled Mahle’s story in his New York Times Best Seller, Rescue Road, will appear together to tell their story and accept an award for their extraordinary efforts at The Massachusetts School of Law “Animal Rights Day,” a children and family event, being held Saturday, March 26, 2016 on the school’s campus.
“We are incredibly excited and proud to be able to honor both of these gentlemen for their work to benefit animals,” says Diane Sullivan, Assistant Dean of Students and Professor of Law.
After the last of his family-run restaurants in Zanesville, Ohio went out of business, Mahle was broke and unsure what to do next. Then, a stranded van-load of puppies changed his life forever. Now, Mahle travels from Ohio to the Gulf Coast to bring abused dogs from the deep South to loving families up north.
When Zheutlin, a freelance journalist and author, became aware of Mahle’s story, Rescue Road (subtitled: One Man, Thirty Thousand Dogs and a Million Miles on the Lost Hope Highway) was born. Zheutlin travelled with Mahle from Houston’s impoverished Fifth Ward, to high-kill animal shelters in Louisiana, to joyous scenes of adopters embracing their new pups in the Northeast.

The Massachusetts School of Law’s “Animal Rights Day” features numerous family-friendly events including animal crafts, face painting, an Easter Egg Hunt, as well as presentations of Barnyard Birds, Curious Creatures, fire and animal rescue equipment, pet training experts and more.
