Mattress on Road Kills 73-Year-Old Biker

Austin, TX (Law Firm Newswire) November 16, 2016 – Riding a motorcycle can be a dangerous undertaking due to unexpected weather, distracted drivers and debris on the road.

A fatal motorcycle crash occurred in Rockwall, Texas on the I-30. A mattress fell off the bed of a red Ford F150 traveling in the same direction as the biker. According to the police and eye witnesses, the motorcyclist ran into a mattress lying on the road which caused his bike to veer off the highway and slam into a light pole. The 73-year-old man was taken to the hospital but died as a result of his injuries.

This motorcycle crash would have been avoided had the driver of the truck, which lost part of its load, secured the load properly. Witnesses told police they saw two women rearranging other items left in the back of the Ford on the side of the road near Horizon Road overpass. Police continue searching for information in relation to this case.

A driver may be negligent in a number of ways, including but not limited to speeding, DWI, abruptly turning in front of a biker or not properly securing a load on the back of a truck causing debris or various other items to fall on the highway creating a hazard for all other drivers. “In this case, if the drivers of the red truck are found, it is a good bet they would be held liable for not properly tying down the mattress in the back.”
