Car Crash Kills Three, At Fault Driver Drunk Says Austin Wrongful Death Attorney Brooks Schuelke

Austin, TX (Law Firm Newswire) December 28, 2017 – Austin, Texas police confirm that an inebriated driver killed three when he crossed the median and crashed into two vehicles.
The crash occurred on U.S. 183 on the 9400 block of Research Boulevard. According to police and the Austin-Travis County EMS, they arrived on the scene of the collision at 3:30 p.m.
Police charged the 41-year-old driver who caused the crash with intoxication assault serious bodily injury and intoxication manslaughter. The man was traveling north in his Jeep just before crossing the median and slamming into a Fiat sedan and a BMW.
Two of the Fiat’s occupants, a mother and her 14-year-old son died at the scene and the father and daughter were taken to different medical facilities for treatment. Later, at the hospital, the father died as a result of his injuries.
The drunk driver had a blood alcohol concentration of .203, more than twice the legal limit. He was booked in Travis County Jail with a $200,000 bond.
“Accidents like these are brutal for those involved,” said respected Austin wrongful death attorney, Brooks Schuelke. “A representative of the estate is able to file a wrongful death lawsuit to obtain compensation for the injuries [the] daughter sustained in this crash.”
In this case, there are criminal charges, but that does not mean the family cannot file a civil suit against the drunk driver at a later date. “Time is of the essence in cases like this,” added Schuelke, who is not involved in this matter, “because if they wait too long, they may lose their right to file a claim.”
