Elder Law Attorney Michael Gilfix Selected for Prestigious Ruth Bader Ginsburg Award
Nov 8, 2019
San Francisco, CA (Law Firm Newswire) November 8, 2019 – The Jewish Bar Association of San Francisco selected attorney Michael Gilfix of Gilfix & La Poll Associates to receive the prestigious Ruth Bader Ginsburg Award for Excellence in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of Elder Law.
The association presented the award to Gilfix at its 2019 Annual Gala on November 5, held in San Francisco at Sens Restaurant from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
In selecting Mr. Gilfix as the award recipient, the organization described him as a leader, “a Bay Area lawyer who…pioneered the field of elder law.” His many accomplishments include cofounding the National Academy for Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) and establishing the United States’ first free legal aid program for seniors, Senior Adults Legal Assistance (SALA), in Palo Alto in 1973.
“I am so honored to be receiving the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Award,” commented Gilfix. “When we created this new field (Elder Law), we were just trying to fill a need – we identified a community in need of legal help and worked to serve it. My work today continues with this service mindset. Planning for the legal issues facing families, and the elderly, is very personal. It goes beyond legal and financial strategies. It means serving families on a deeper level, building a relationship. My work in the early days of Elder Law was much the same. It was about serving and giving back.”
Gilfix is nationally known for his work with aging, law and estate planning. Along with creating SALA and cofounding NAELA, he was the first attorney to have been elected to the organization as a Fellow. As a highly respected elder law and estate planning attorney, Gilfix has numerous other achievements to his name. He is a sought-after speaker at the national level and a prolific author who has written several books. He has appeared regularly in the media – featured in the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, on KGO 810AM, and many other national media outlets. He also contributes regularly to legal journals.
Gilfix & La Poll Associates is based in Palo Alto, California. For over 35 years, the law firm has provided experienced representation and innovative legal solutions in elder law, long term care, estate planning and special needs planning.
