The Silver Beaver is a national award presented annually to those of exceptional character and noteworthy service to youth at the local council level. While a recipient’s service on the council level is considered, so too is their overall level of service to the Boy Scout Community. The Silver Beaver Award is the highest honor a Boy Scout Council can bestow upon a volunteer and is given to those who implement the Scouting program and perform community service through hard work, self-sacrifice, dedication and many years of service.
Jason’s service related to the Longhorn Council Aquatic School is among his most notable efforts. Jason has served as the chairman of the program since reviving it in 2013 and he has served as the course director nine times. Aquatic School is a week-long leadership and instructor course where Scouts learn swimming, boating skills, lifeguarding, leadership, time management and public speaking. Since 2018, Jason has served on the Longhorn Council Executive Board, and served as the Vice President of Outdoor Program between 2019-2021.
As an Eagle Scout and Vigil Honor recipient, this award is only the most recent acknowledgment of Jason’s lifetime dedication to the Scouting community, as well as his community as a whole.
