Wrongful Death Lawsuit Filed over Chicago Hit-and-Run

Chicago, IL (Law Firm Newswire) May 4, 2015 – A relative of a man killed in a Chicago hit-and-run accident has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the other driver.
Danielle Brunson filed the lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court on behalf of William Brunson, who was killed in the January 2013 crash. The defendant is Delia Aguila, who is currently serving a ten-year prison sentence for her role in the crash.
“Losing a loved one is always painful, but even more so when the death could have been prevented but for someone else’s negligence,” said Paul Greenberg, a Chicago wrongful death attorney with Briskman Briskman & Greenberg. Greenberg is not involved in the case.
At the time of the accident, authorities said that Brunson and his girlfriend, Victoria Means, were changing a tire on West 87th Street when they were struck by Aguila’s van. According to authorities, Aguila had a blood alcohol level of .194 and was traveling at 60 mph.
In December 2013, she pleaded guilty to reckless homicide and leaving an accident scene. Prosecutors claimed that she did not have a driver’s license when the crash occurred and that she had never had one in the past.
The lawsuit claims that Aguila failed to sound her horn or keep a proper lookout as her vehicle approached the couple. The suit demands $50,000 in damages. Prior to her prison sentence, Aguila worked as a dental hygienist and assistant. According to news reports, at her sentencing hearing, Aguila tearfully apologized to the families of the victims.
