Steinberg Law Firm’s Malcolm Crosland Elected New President Workers’ Injury Law and Advocacy Group
Oct 29, 2020
Law Firm Newswire) October 29, 2020 – Malcolm Crosland, a partner with Goose Creek, S.C. personal injury law practice Steinberg Law Firm, is the new national President of the Workers’ Injury Law and Advocacy Group (WILG). Crosland will guide the 1,000+-member U.S. legal association for a one-year term, effective as of October 2020.
The leadership role is a natural fit for the attorney, who has practiced law for 34 years and has been actively involved with the WILG for many years, including serving in executive leadership, committees and board roles. Comprised of attorneys from every state in the country, WILG is the only national organization of workers’ compensation attorneys who exclusively represent injured workers.
Through advocacy and work in both Washington, D.C., South Carolina, and other states around the country, WILG is dedicated to protecting the rights of working Americans everywhere. Founded in 1995, WILG represents the interests of millions of workers and their families who, each year, suffer the consequences of work-related injuries or occupational illnesses and who need expert legal assistance to obtain medical care and other relief under workers’ compensation programs.
“I am honored to serve as President of an organization that’s so close to my heart,” said Crosland. “When it comes to handling workers’ compensation cases, I understand how workplace-related injuries and illnesses can affect an entire family. Being a part of WILG, where every member shares that passion for helping those affected by workplace incidents, is a special honor – and a great responsibility. Working together, we can continue lighting the way for families across the country who are navigating a new normal after a workplace accident affecting themselves or a loved one.”
WILG is a home base for the country’s leading legal experts to exchange information, conduct subject-matter research and champion progress surrounding workplace-related incidents. In 2020, the group has added special focus to COVID-19 related matters, including educating workers about compensation resources.
Crosland, who began his work with Steinberg Law in 1986, has worked extensively to preserve, protect and expand the existing workers’ compensation system through his involvement as chairperson of WILG’s Opt Out Taskforce, which fights the creation of an alternate workers’ compensation scheme completely unfair to injured workers. He was honored in 2017 with the WILG President’s Award for this work.
In addition to his involvement with WILG, Crosland has donated extensive volunteer service work with other organizations that include: The Brain Injury Association of South Carolina, Lowcountry Aids Services and The Barrier Islands Free Medical Clinic. In addition, he served as President of Injured Workers Advocates (IWA) (2006-2007), the only South Carolina statewide organization for attorneys dedicated to the protection of the rights of injured workers. He has received a plethora of other awards and honors throughout his exemplary career. For many years, Crosland has been consistently recognized by Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers.
