Jul 19, 2021

New York, NY(Law Firm Newswire) July 19, 2021 – Suffolk police confiscated weapons and drugs during the arrests of three alleged gang members in Hauppauge in Long Island, New York. One of the men had an active attempted murder warrant against him.

Brandon Hicks, 19, was wanted for attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment in Nassau County. He was located by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force and the Suffolk County Police Firearm Suppression Team. Law enforcement officers recovered three loaded handguns, 35 grams of fentanyl and around 30 grams of crack cocaine from the 2012 Infinity G37 that Hicks was driving.

“New York is known for having among the strictest weapons laws in the nation, especially with regards to firearms,” commented Peter Brill, a Long Island criminal defense lawyer with Brill Legal Group, who is not involved with the case. “Drug possession charges become more serious when there are weapons in the picture. Anyone who is facing drugs or weapons charges should retain a skilled criminal defense lawyer.”

Hicks was driving on a residential street when he spotted police officers watching him. He then drove away and crashed into a Ford pickup truck at the Motor Parkway and the Long Island Expressway North Service Road intersection. A tire from Hicks’ vehicle also hit a 2016 GMC Suburban. The occupants of the cars that were struck in the collisions declined medical attention.

Hicks and his two passengers tried to flee but were caught by officers. The passengers were identified as Jahiem Hayes, 19, and Travis Guy,18.

Both men and Hicks were charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree. Hayes faces an additional charge of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Hicks was also charged with reckless driving.

Authorities found a shotgun, an assault rifle, two loaded handguns and roughly 35 grams of crack cocaine at a Hauppauge residence. Police did not disclose the name of the gang the three men were allegedly part of.
