Houston Immigration Attorney Hopeful That Lockbox Facilities Will Ease Application Process

Dec 27, 2011

Houston, TX (Law Firm Newswire) December 23, 2011 – The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service’s move to streamline its form processing for citizenship and naturalization forms is earning praise from some who regularly work with the forms.

Houston immigration attorney Annie Banerjee said any move that creates more consistency and reliability in the application process is a good one.

“The application process for immigrants to this country has been clogged up with red tape and confusing requirements for too long,” Banerjee said. “The lockbox facilities for processing the paperwork and fees should be a great help.”

This fall, USCIS began accepting all N-300, N-336, N-600 and N-600K forms exclusively at the three lockbox facilities in Chicago, Phoenix and Dallas. The lockbox processing centers manage the incoming mail electronically. The applications are sorted, scanned and the information is distributed to the correct office for that particular form. The checks are processed and deposited at the lockbox facility as well.

The lockbox offices also process many of the I-forms including the I-129F, I-130, I-140, I-526, I-539 and I-817 forms among many others.

The goal of the change is to streamline the data collection, get fees collected and deposited in a timelier manner and standardize acceptance and rejection notification, according to the USCIS’ website.

“These are all worthy goals for USCIS,” Banerjee said. “I hope the new processing centers free up the local offices to handle day-to-day issues faced by people who want to legally become citizens of the United States.”

Most people filling out N-forms will be sending their applications to the Phoenix lockbox facility – including forms N-336, N-600 and N-600K. N-300 forms now will go to Dallas’ lockbox facility.
