Alcohol a Factor in Deadly Hit and Run Accident
Sep 1, 2012
Tampa, FL (Law Firm Newswire) August 31, 2012 – A man was killed after being thrown from his vehicle and then run over on Interstate 90 in Santa Rosa County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
A 40-year-old Milton man was driving a Ford F-150 at about 4 a.m. when he lost control of the vehicle. He was headed east and in some proximity to Smith’s Fish Camp Road. After losing control of his truck, he was thrown from it and landed in the eastbound lane. Here he was struck by another vehicle and died. The victim was not wearing a seatbelt.
Alcohol was involved in the accident, said the Florida Highway Patrol. Engaging in just one of these destructive behaviors is bad enough, but doing both at the same time is inviting disaster. However, what made matters even worse is that the vehicle that struck the victim did not stop. The driver left the scene of the accident.
In such cases, there might have been a chance the victim could have survived, if immediate medical attention was available. Even though the victim was breaking laws by driving under the influence and not wearing his seat belt, another party also violated the law.
“Accidents like these are very unfortunate, because they are preventable and do not need to be fatal,” said Tampa auto accident attorney Robert Joyce.
Police said the vehicle that left the scene could be a Saturn of a 1999 to 2002 vintage. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Florida Highway Patrol at 254-1402. ext 8.
